BrioHR now offers a configurable “Basis for Daily Rate Calculation” setting for both Malaysia and Singapore payroll users. In this guide, we’ll explain how each formula works and how it affects the calculation of day-based unit type pay items.
Introducing: New Daily Rate Calculation Setting in the Payroll Center (Malaysia & Singapore Payroll Centers)
We’re excited to introduce a new enhancement to the Payroll Center’s General Settings: the addition of a Basis for Daily Rate Calculation setting.
The formula you select here will determine how the daily rate is calculated for custom pay items using the "Days" unit type.
NOTE:
For more information regarding the "Days" unit type, please refer to this article:
How to User the New Payroll Items Table in Malaysia and Singapore Payroll
In BrioHR, there are three available formulas to calculate the basis of daily rate:
- Fixed Number of Days
- Working Days in the Current Calendar Month
- All Days in the Current Calendar Month
NOTE:
The final daily date will be rounded to the nearest figure (2 decimal places)

How Does Each Basis for Daily Rate Calculation Formula Work?
1. Fixed Number of Day (e.g, 26 days)
Formula:
Daily rate = basic salary ÷ 26 days
- Example:
Basic salary = $3,000 - Daily rate = $3,000 ÷ 26 days
= $115.3846
2. Working Days in Current Calendar Month
For example, April 2025 has 22 working days (assume the work day is 5 days per week, excluding Saturday and Sunday)
Formula:
Daily rate = basic salary ÷ 22 days
Example:
- Basic salary = $3,000
- Daily rate = $3,000 ÷ 22 days
= $136.3636
3. All Days in Current Calendar Month
For example, April 2025 has 30 days in a calendar month
Formula:
Daily rate = basic salary ÷ 30 days
Example:
- Basic salary = $3,000
- Daily rate = $3,000 ÷ 30 day
= $100.00
