Indonesia Payroll Update: NIK to Serve as Tax Number (NPWP) Starting July 1, 2024

We are excited to share an important update from the Indonesian government that will impact all employees in Indonesia.

Did You Know?

Starting July 1, 2024, an individual's National Identification Number (NIK) will also function as their Taxpayer Identification Number (NPWP). This change aims to streamline administrative processes and make it easier for individuals to manage their tax obligations.

Key Points:

  • Simplification: The NIK will now serve as the NPWP, reducing the need for multiple identification numbers.
  • Compliance: Ensure your personal information is up-to-date to facilitate a smooth transition.
  • Benefits: This update is expected to simplify tax filings and improve overall efficiency.

The Directorate General of Taxes (Pajak) has mandated that all individuals validate their NIK and NPWP online by July 1, 2024. If you haven’t validated yet, we strongly recommend doing so to avoid any potential tax compliance issues.

Validation Steps:

  • Visit the Pajak Website.
  • Log in using your NIK/NPWP, password, and security code.
  • Navigate to the main data validation status in the profile menu.
  • Enter your 16-digit NIK or NPWP in the designated column.
  • The system will verify your data with the Directorate General of Population and Civil Registration.
  • If validation is successful, you will receive a notification with the relevant data information.
  • Finally, log in to the DJP Online site using your NIK.

Steps if Validation Fails:

  • Visit the Pajak Website.
  • Click on login or access DJP Online directly.
  • Enter your 15-digit NPWP, password, and security code.
  • Click the three-line icon, go to the profile menu, and select "Profile Data."
  • Enter the 16-digit NIK that matches your KTP (Indonesian Identity Card).
  • Validate the data by clicking the validation button.
  • Update your profile, log out, and then log in again using your NIK.

For assistance with any issues during the validation process, please contact Pajak directly via the Pajak Website.
