Effective 1 January 2025, the Inland Revenue Board (IRB) has introduced a Tax Identification Number (TIN) search service to simplify and enhance taxpayer convenience. This initiative aligns with the government’s announcement in the 2025 Budget and supports tax-related activities as outlined under the Income Tax Act (ACP) 1967, including the implementation of e-Invoicing.
The TIN search platform can be accessed via the MyTax Portal (https://mytax.hasil.gov.my) under the "TIN Search" menu.
How Does the TIN Search Work?
Taxpayers can easily search for their TIN by providing specific details, depending on the category:
-
For Individuals: Enter your Identification Number (IC Number or Passport Number).
-
For Non-Individuals: Use your Business Registration Number (BRN) or the Taxpayer Name registered with HASiL (for those without a BRN).
Additional Mechanisms for e-Invoicing
To facilitate the rollout of e-Invoicing, the TIN search function is also available through:
-
MyInvois Portal
-
MyInvois Application Programming Interface (API)
Detailed information on using the TIN search function via the API can be found in the MyInvois Software Development Kit (SDK).
Integration with MyDigital ID
To further support the use of MyDigital ID, HASiL provides access to the TIN search function on the MyTax Portal using MyDigital ID verification. However, this feature is exclusively available to Malaysian citizens.
Key Features and Limitations
-
The TIN search platform (via MyTax or MyInvois) will display only one (1) TIN that matches the information entered.
-
Taxpayers are reminded to use the TIN search function strictly for purposes outlined under the ACP 1967. Misuse of the function may result in prosecution under Section 66A of the ACP 1967.
