Understanding 360 Feedback Categories in the BrioHR Performance Cycle

Learn about the three types of 360 Feedback in BrioHR: Upwards, Downwards, and Peer Feedback. Understand how each category works and how HR Admins can use them to enhance employee performance evaluations.

Introduction

Performance appraisal is not limited to feedback from employees and their appraisers. It can also involve colleagues, direct reports, or supervisors who interact with the appraisee. Allowing feedback from multiple perspectives provides a more complete and accurate picture of an employee’s performance.

BrioHR supports this through the 360 Feedback feature, where HR Admins can choose which feedback categories to enable and decide whether feedback should be based on competencies or structured questions.

This article explains the different categories of 360 Feedback available in a BrioHR Performance Cycle.

Categories of 360 Feedback in BrioHR

360 Feedback is a multi-source evaluation method that includes feedback from individuals who work above, below, and alongside the appraisee.

BrioHR offers three main types of 360 Feedback:

    1. Upwards Feedback

Upwards Feedback is collected from employees who report to the appraisee.
    These reviewers are typically:

    • Junior team members

    • Direct reports

    • Interns

    • Project team members who worked under the appraisee’s leadership

This type of feedback provides insights into the appraisee’s leadership, communication, delegation, and overall management style.

    2. Downwards Feedback

Downwards Feedback comes from individuals who manage or supervise the appraisee.
    These reviewers may include:

    • Direct supervisors

    • Department heads

    • Project managers

This type of feedback helps assess the appraisee’s performance, reliability, contribution, and growth from a managerial perspective.

    3. Peer Feedback

Peer Feedback is provided by colleagues who work at the same level as the appraisee.
    These peers often include:

    • Team members

    • Cross-functional collaborators

    • Co-workers who interacted closely with the appraisee

Peer reviews help evaluate teamwork, collaboration, communication, and work ethic.

    IMPORTANT:

Feedback and ratings provided by 360 Feedback Givers are not visible to appraisees. Only managers and HR have access to view the comments, ratings, and identities of the feedback givers.
