Set Up Clock-In and Clock-Out Reminders on the brioHR Mobile App
This article explains how to get a reminder on your phone before or after your shift starts and ends, so you don’t forget to clock in or clock out. You choose the timing yourself, and you can turn the reminders on or off at any time.
Audience & Scope
Audience: Employee
Module: Time Attendance
Country: Global
Pre-requisites: User group settings
- brioHR mobile app version 2.14.0 or later
- Time & Attendance enabled for your company (main branch)
- Notifications allowed for brioHR on your phone
IMPORTANT:
Reminders are set by your phone, using your published shift schedule. They are not sent by brioHR. Your phone picks up your schedule when you open the app or log in, so open the app regularly to keep your reminders up to date.
Before You Start
1. Update the app and allow notifications
- Update the brioHR Mobile App to the latest version from the App Store or Google Play.
- Make sure notifications are allowed for brioHR in your phone settings. If they’re blocked, you can’t turn reminders on.

2. Check your schedule type
Reminders work only on fixed shifts. They need a shift start and end time to work from.
If you work flexible hours, the Attendance reminders setting shows Not available, and no reminders are set.
3. Check the limits
| Limit | Value |
|---|---|
| Reminders per shift | One clock-in reminder and one clock-out reminder |
| Timing options | 5 mins, 10 mins, 15 mins, 30 mins, 1 hr |
| Before or after | Before or after shift starts; before or after shift ends |
| Where it works | Main branch only |
| Where it’s saved | On this phone only. On a new phone, set it up again. |
| NOT supported | Flexible hours schedules |
Step-by-Step Guide: Set Up Attendance Reminders
Step 1 - Open Attendance reminders
- Open the brioHR mobile app and tap Account.
- Under Settings, tap Attendance reminders. It’s below Biometric login.
The row shows ON or OFF, so you can see at a glance whether reminders are on.
NOTE:
If you’ve switched into a subsidiary, the Attendance reminders row is hidden. Tap Back to main branch to see it.
Step 2 - Turn on reminders
- Turn on Clock-in and clock-out reminders.
If you’ve never changed this setting, reminders are already on, set to 15 mins before shift starts for clock-in and 15 mins after shift ends for clock-out.
Step 3 - Set your clock-in reminder
Under Clock-in reminder, choose:
- How long: 5 mins, 10 mins, 15 mins, 30 mins or 1 hr.
- When: Before shift starts or After shift starts.
Step 4 - Set your clock-out reminder
Under Clock-out reminder, choose:
- How long: 5 mins, 10 mins, 15 mins, 30 mins or 1 hr.
- When: Before shift ends or After shift ends.
NOTE:
The banner below the reminders reads “If your roster changes at the last minute, reminders may still follow your previous shift time.” See When will I not get a reminder? below.
Step 5 - Save your settings
- Tap Save. The button is disabled until you change something.
- You’ll see “Successfully updated attendance reminders”.
IMPORTANT: If you go back without saving, brioHR asks Leave without saving. Tap Confirm to discard your changes and keep your previous setting, or Cancel to stay on the page.
Step 6 - Get your reminder
At the time you chose, your phone shows a notification. It arrives even when the app is closed:
- Clock-in Reminder: “Remember to clock in for your shift”
- Clock-out Reminder: “Remember to clock out for your shift”
Tap the reminder to open the brioHR home screen, ready to clock in or out:
- If you’re in a subsidiary, the app switches you back to the main branch first.
- If you’re logged out, log in, and you’ll land on the home screen.
When Will I Not Get a Reminder?
You won’t get a reminder:
- On days with no published shift, such as a rest day, an off day or a full-day leave.
- For clock-in, if you’ve already clocked in that day.
- For clock-out, if you never clocked in that day, or if you’ve already clocked out.
- If the reminder time has already passed when your phone sets it up. Late reminders are skipped, not delivered late.
- If your schedule changed and you haven’t opened the app since. Reminders follow the schedule your phone last picked up. Open the app to update them.
- If you’ve logged out, or someone else has logged in on the same phone.
- If notifications are blocked for brioHR. Reminders stop, and the switch turns off.
